The giving of thanks is a biblical concept going all the way back to Noah and his family in the book of Genesis. As soon as the earth was dry after the flood, Noah and his family were finally able to leave the ark. Noah's first act was to build an altar and give thanks and worship to God.

Answer. The Bible is filled with commands to give thanks to God ( Psalm 106:1; 107:1; 118:1; 1 Chronicles 16:34; 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ). Most verses go on to list reasons why we should thank Him, such as "His love endures forever" ( Psalm 136:3 ), "He is good" ( Psalm 118:29 ), and "His mercy is everlasting" ( Psalm 100:5 ).
Give us the power, the heart, and the attitude to be thankful in all things. Even in the darkest times, You love us, You are with us, and You saved us from our sins. And for that we are grateful.
